Every year every last Monday of October is customary to celebrate World Library Day. Officially, this holiday began to celebrate in 1999, and he was initiated by UNESCO. Such a position for the first time, President Peter Jenko’s International School Library Association was announced and it was in 2005. And in 2008, the organizer of this project declared October the month of school libraries, and the one-day holiday grew into a month and thus moved to a new level.
Throughout the month, all those who celebrate Library Day have the opportunity to choose one or more days in order to hold events in their institutions. Some even use these days to collect books for charity.
In 2008, the Day of Libraries was celebrated for the first time in Russia. Then the motto of the year was the phrase “School library on the agenda”. At this holiday, a plan of events for the coming years was approved. These were seminars, exhibitions, meetings and various trainings, book collections, forums for librarians.
These traditions have been preserved to this day. Undoubtedly, the slogans and themes of the holiday are changing, various presentations and drawings of books are arranged, options for cooperation between libraries with different spheres of life are being considered. In addition, in addition to the World Library Day, the professional holiday of domestic school librarians is celebrated in the spring. And this holiday is usually celebrated every year on May 27.
