Such a natural material as wood tends to dry out, which leads to shrinkage of the log structure, the formation of unnecessary cracks and gaps. For warming chopped houses, caulking is carried out, a method known in ancient times.

Caulking of the structure is carried out twice – at the assembly stage and after shrinkage. Various materials are used as insulation:
moss, tow, felt – traditional options;
flax fiber, jute – more modern options;
sealant, putty – innovative ways.
Before re-caulking in the traditional way (tow or flax), you must wait a whole year, in addition, during the operation of the building, this procedure will need to be repeated several times (since birds often take away material for nests). Despite this fact, tow and linen have an undeniable advantage in comparison with innovative materials (sealant and putty) – environmental friendliness and naturalness.
When using a sealant, you do not have to wait for the structure to settle, since this material has the ability to stretch and compress during the movement of the building. As for the putty, some compounds can turn into a monolith, which destroys the structure of the wood and provokes the appearance of new gaps and cracks.
